Armed officers have encircled the headquarters of the All Progressive Congress in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. This particular secretariat, led by Austin Agada, is situated along JS Tarka Way, opposite the Railway Market.
It's noteworthy that there are two such party headquarters within the city. The second, overseen by Benjamin Omakolo, is located along Kashim Ibrahim Way. Daniel Ihomun, spokesperson for the Agada faction, suggested that the closure of their headquarters might be linked to the planned inauguration of the zoning committee for the upcoming local government elections.
According to Ihomun, they were scheduled to inaugurate this committee at their headquarters, but government authorities dispatched police and individuals to seal off the premises. Our sources indicate that police officers and an Armoured Personnel Vehicle arrived at the Agada-led office as early as 6 a.m. on Friday.
Attempts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, for clarification on the reason behind the closure were unsuccessful. The Agada faction had formed a zoning committee consisting of 21 members from the state's three senatorial districts, with plans for inauguration on Friday.
However, the Omakolo-led team quickly issued a statement through its Publicity Secretary, Terseer Agber, urging party members and the public to disregard the zoning committee established by the Agada faction.
